malulua nichola has also been playing that RB role in training and has also been spending some time in that position in the pre season friendlies.

He's a good young player that has had to wait patiently for his time in the first team squad, he previously had trained with PSV a couple seasons ago

There used to be a few posters at TWG and the early days of 442 who had close links with a few AL clubs.

Elbasan Rashani is leaving Melbourne City upon falling out of contract after making 18 appearances for the side across all competitions during a year's worth of service time in season 2025-26, finding the back of the net twice in both the A-League Men and AFC Champions League Elite in addition to recording an assist.

For a visa player I don't think that he ever got into the groove of things. 2 goals is an indifferent return.

Tom Aldred has been confirmed as returning to Brisbane Roar on a one-year deal after spending two seasons with Mohun Bagan Super Giant and will be under contract at the side for the entirety of A-League Men season 2026-27.
 
We currently only had two centre-backs on senior contracts in Valkanis Jr and Bility (who is utter shit imo), so we always needed to sign at least two more—one genuine starter to partner Valkanis Jr and one experienced third-choice option.

If we've signed him with that backup role in mind, and on wages that reflect that, then I don't mind the signing. He counts as an Australian, will bring leadership and experience to a young squad, and at his best we know he's more than capable at A-League level.

The concern is if we've signed him to be a regular starter. His legs already looked to be going before he left for India, so that would be a significant gamble.

The positive, though, is that he didn't appear to have any major injury issues during his time in India that affected him the way they seemed to in his final year or so at Brisbane. That suggests the physical decline we saw may have been more injury-related than simply age.

Unfortunately, Bility plays well for 98% of the game but then makes one or two mistakes that lead to a goal, often through poor positioning. He seems to lack confidence, and opposition teams are fully aware of this weakness

I mean, seriously, Aldred again at pushing 37 is the best Brisbane can do?

Yep, Aldred was a clear liability in his last season at Roar. Two seasons later, and approaching 36 years old, it would be very naive to think that he is a reasonable signing. I can only assume he was cheap, probably because he wanted to return to Brisbane to live.

And with (Noah) Bility as another CB at Roar, I do not hold high hopes for any defensive strength at Roar this season.

I don’t get why you wouldn’t sign Donachie instead. He had a good season, would be fairly cheap and is a Queenslander.

I’m surprised he’s come back from the ISL at his age. The ISL is a considerably lower standard than the A-League and possibly even the NPL (at least in NSW and Victoria; as in, APIA or Hellas could win the ISL). Either he just went for the bag and has since realised how fucked the AIFF is, or the Roar are out of ideas.

Sadly, I think it is the no ideas option.

Does not say anything encouraging about Brisbane's prospects.
