Australian transfers 26-27 Summer

Watford aren’t stupid. Irankunda doesn’t have the cred to force a move. Playing in the Championship is still the best current opportunity he’s got.

A better season than last and Prem sides will come looking and can more than match/negotiate Watfords demands better than Sporting can.

Obviously Sporting don’t have the financials of an EPL club and therefore the valuation for the player is different, but a 20 year old on a 5 year contract is an asset they’re not going to give up for cheap.

Nestor could well be playing another season for Watford if deal falls through in my opinion.

When players succeed there they generally move to the top 10 clubs in the world.

Its a HUGE move for an Australian player and i cant see how you can say otherwise.

I wonder if we will see more players try their luck in those lower tier leagues like Finland in getting first team opportunities?

We have seen it with Tete Yengi and now Luka Smyth who has moved to Notts County in League 1, we got plenty of talent here but it’s all down to the opportunities and given we don’t have enough teams in the aleague circle, potential opportunities to go overseas in those kind of leagues will not be the worst thing to do.

You make a lot of good points and fair to see it as a huge move when looking at it like that. If we're talking as a development platform, there's very few destinations greater than Sporting. They are recognised as a development factory, globally.

However, they don't play in any of the Big 5, and have never won a European Cup, which for me is a criteria for a huge move (albeit Sporting is a stronger move than Nottingham Forest, Hamburg or Marseille).

They're not bigger than Dortmund or Villa.

They're certainly not bigger than the powerhouses of European football (Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, ManU, AC, Inter....the list goes on).
