Even though England are getting knocked out they still get to play in the third place match though.

I've never liked the 3rd/4th playoff game. Who cares who is the better loser, and how are the players supposed to lift when it's pretty meaningless

Why didn't the players just wear helmets. He doesn't get away with that in the EPL I think. The player is down that long they question as to why and check a review.

Confederation doesn't matter but here two raw CONCACAF refs for semifinals losing control has seen very weak refereeing. Refs with big game experience from any confederation were needed.

Maybe not but it was stupid. I don't think anyone in England cares but it's some traumatic populist crap that stirs shit up in Argentina. Even Scaloni did his best to turn the volume down on this stuff pre-game.

The time of the match should be irrelevant. If play is violent then the call should be made. Neither semifinal ref had control.

I've just seen the footage of Spence being clipped before the second goal. Plenty of refs see that and blow and foul and the play is done. Blind officiating.

This is why I like the coaches that don't celebrate goals and tell their players to get the fuck on with it. Game is 90 minutes.

They love it when its dirty, fouls, stop and start match, they played off the atmosphere and occasion, and as soon as England scored, the argies stepped it up a notch.

Tournament football is a marathon so therefore it's rarely beautiful football and no one does it like Argentina. South and Central American football can do that niggly shit all day & their concept of "fair" play isn't rooted in the same sporting values as Europeans. In the end though they have the quality to step up and score goals when it matters.

It is how they play. This stuff goes on in Sth America all the time in particular 2nd divisions ( the sneakiest teams are the Colombian Primera B teams). This is the stuff that Australians need to be exposed to or at a bare minimum have one of these type assistant managers on the bench to teach the Australians some of the subtle dark arts.

Unfortunately the board of FA will squander money on junkets, protecting their backsides against legal claims and plumping up their own seats so we are stuck with what is there at the moment.
