Neither of those two(nor Holger) should've gotten the gig in the first place, so it's a moot point.

I'm really not in the mood to explain my stance on this at length - so feel free to dive into the rabbit-hole of my posting-history on here to answer any queries you might have re. this.
 
If we want to splash some cash, Paul Mitchell and Txiki Begiristain are available. They would be fantastic TD's. Lower price would be Sebastien Kehl, Oliver Ruhnert, Rob Newman

Put Haaland in any side & you improve it, he is that good.
But we lack midfielders, well quality ones anyway like Odegaard.

Outstanding point patjennings
Look at all the teams winning at the World Cup - they all have a quality striker !
Ronaldo, Mbappe, Haaland, Kane, Messi.
But you also need decent midfield to supply the ball, we shouldnt forget they need service.
Nesta for example. Probably not a clean cut multi-skilled striker of the likes of the abovementioned. But you still need even decent service.
To say this is all about style - this is embarrasing !

We have some quality players in this squad, and they should improve with experience, especially if they get signed by top clubs.

Striker is the most odvious gap in the side.

There is no reason why Austraila can't produce elite talent, but the pathways and junior development probably need to be improved.
 
Haven't we had a national curriculum since 2009 based around a 4-3-3 Dutch model? Don't know, might be a few years old, did it change with Hans Berger? Like if we have then surely we commit not just to train, but play that way as well. No point training and aiming to play 'total football' but then on game day try and playing like the Italians. Like didn't the Japanese also decide on a centralised playing philosophy and try and roll it out at all levels.

We did in a way but the first ntc was just a bunch of principles and the 2nd had how to implement them
If the ntc is right that the golden age of technical development is 10-13, then the first to go through it are born 2000 or after for round 1 and 2005 and after for round 2

There seems to be an improvement but its hard to know how much credit goes to different factors since the they all happen at a similar time
- more early game time for young players due to a league financial distress
- the national curriculum
- a league clubs having academies

It should be said that as welcome as the improvement is, we are still well behind the golden generation

If there was a 2nd harry kewell, he would be born 2006 and playing regularly for an upper table epl club last season

If we had a second aloisi, one of the lesser lights of the golden generation, we would have a 2007 born striker scoring regularly for a mid table belgium team last season

We dont have anyone near that, we have to hope that we have some late developers. Volpato, bos and circati have hit a promising level and a few youngsters look like they could too. But i strongly suspect without majour changes to our pathways we wont hit the level we had before

I suspect he was desperate and didn't always make rational decisions. In the end, only he can know

As Arnie's mate you would expect Slater to say that. But it was an irrational decision in the first place. Redmayne against Peru was a relative unknown who had saved few penalties and was aware of the plan for months. Both Ryan and Vukovic had much better penalty records. The other thing was they all came out of Crawley's EGK academy and trusted Crawley implicitly.

Egypt expected Ryan to either play, that's why they had the footage ready. Ryan had been ignored all tournament and was told there was a possibility with 30 minutes to go. Was he prepared - I doubt it.

In Redmaynes case apparently he had 6 weeks notice. He is also 194cm, with a 300cm beard making him a pretty big figure in front of goal. So the sub made sense to me just in terms of his profile. I would expect Ryan to be worse than Izzo and Beach

I looked at the last two season - all very good (assuming AI is right). Considering that a 1 save in 5 is considered good they all have great numbers over the last two seasons.

Izzos looks insane. Not sure if pens scale differently with level of league to general play?

Ryan seemed to go early a lot which worked for in game pens. But it seemed the egyptians saw he went early and then delayed their shots
