2026 Hahn Australia Cup

Would imagine it’s the board etc the loweys are still heavily involved I’m pretty sure. Its not just a football club, there’s the broader Hakoah Jewish social club. It’s sort of flown under the radar, but they’re currently building a new complex at white city in Paddington in the eastern suburbs, must be worth a fuck ton

Agreed and I get the point you’re making, but to be fair without knowing the ins and outs of the finances and not to disparage the Greek community, I dare say the hakoah club/Sydney city have access to a level of capital very few private member based clubs do, let alone Olympic.

For Melbourne based people this would be equivalent to a club buying the Kooyong tennis club or something and redeveloping it into their home base. This is not way out west in the sticks, it’s in a heritage protected section of inner eastern suburbs surrounded by terrace houses and some of the wealthiest postcodes in the country. The land alone is extremely valuable

Granted that is a lavish facility. Even a small clubhouse with a small bar and a small ground after existing since the fucking 1960's for Olympic should be a minimum requirement for a club like that.

Would give them a base to build from. I also think an appropriately sized grand stand would help Olympic re match day experience. As much as Belmore and kogarah are good venues they’re too big and look empty if there’s less than 10,000 people there. Both hold around 20,000 I believe, even for the championship that’s too big. The next biggest venues in npl nsw would be Marconi and Edensor park which are half that size

Hellas just absorbed be their junior setup mate... The seniors folded for lack of fans.
Sydney city Hakoah have always also had a lack of fans, even when they were dominating the nsl, it’s just that the support they do have is well resourced and generous. Relatives of mine who played against them when they were at the peak of their powers in the early years of the nsl (late 70s-early 80s) reckon you’d essentially be playing against the Australian national team but it would just be the wives and girlfriends in the stands plus a few wealthy benefactors.

The previous location of the Hakoah club was in Bondi but was sold and redeveloped about a decade ago to make way for this new complex. That’s where they found the original Australia cup trophy discarded in the bin

Fraser park 1-0 Bankstown united

On a whim decided to get down to Fraser park (aka Sydney Portugal) v Bankstown united tonight to support the comp. Both clubs are currently in npl 3. Good game tbh, plenty of action, bit of edge of your seat tension in the final minutes, bit of push and shove, tough challenges etc. each to their own but give me that live over watching Sunderland v Everton on tv at 3 am any day. Was a decent crowd in too which was getting up and about particularly in the last 10 minutes or so. Grand stand ended up being about 3/4 full.

Great little club with a great little set up imo, one that many bigger clubs could only dream of. Bifana (Portuguese pork steak roll) was surprisingly decent too imo

Rippa setup... Vamos Fraser indeed... Good on you getting out there.

The club is in Marrickville in the inner west, one of the main areas in Sydney the Greek community originally settled in. There’s still some Greek businesses left in the area now, but there were subsequent waves of Vietnamese migrants and now the hipsters starting to move in.

Wasn’t someone saying a few weeks back that Olympic had the opportunity to get this site once upon a time, if so would have been perfect for them

i still havent had a chance to visit that new ground, don't think we've ever played Fraser Park.

I hope they make it all the way and qualify for the round of 32 of the Aus Cup.

Quality set up in a great location.

They’re doing quite well in the league this year by the looks. Fraser park, Bonnyrigg and Parramatta melita are all up there in the top half of the comp vying for promotion. But last night they certainly weren’t convincing, Bankstown probably had the better of the play and chances

Yes I did. That's a story I heard. I'm a member of the social club at Fraser. I was the head coach there as well.. last time they won the league. ;)
