Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Agree that Shalamanov-Trenkov should be delisted at the start of the midseason transfer window to make way for a quality keeper but probably we can keep Singh and Lackay through season's end before culling them.
OPL is going to finihs next month and we are going to be left with a massive squad all looking for matchtime... Its time to start thinking of culling, and sadly neither Singh or Jimmy look like they bring anything to the table.

delisting all 3 would be the only logical move... none of thwm can provode anything for the NPL let alone the upcoming championship... we are in need of solid quality especially up front.
All valid points.

I think it would make good sense to promote a youth player like Savistavros rather than keep Singh, unless the rumours are true about Aguek/Sawyer. Once the OFC Pro League season ends, we only require 2 goalkeepers and the third can be our U20 goalkeeper. Lackay is more suited to the VPL level rather than NPL. I know he's young, but I just cant see him developing enough to warrant a spot in the South squad, given some of the quality of the U23 team coming through with the likes of the Angelatos brothers, Papadimitriou, Saristavros, and Killick.

The mid-season transfer window should be utilised to bring in quality additions for not only strengthening our player stocks to win the NPL Victoria championship, but also for both the upcoming Australia Cup and Australian Championship competitions.

I wonder who will coach the team against Oakleigh on Sunday? We play on Saturday but we remain in Fiji until next Tuesday. I cant imagine Sinisa coming back for Sunday then leaving to return to Fiji for the Tuesday game.

After today's draw between Tahiti and South Island, it is now impossible for South Melbourne to finish outside the top 4.

So I suspect most of our First Team players will return for the Oakleigh match.

Oops .... I made a mistake. We still can miss out.

But it is such a long shot

Solomons beat Vanuatu

We lost to Bula

Solomons beat South Island

We lost to PNG

We lost to Tahiti

South Island beat Auckland

ALL these results need to occur

How we deal with the weekend will depend on our result with Bula.

If we win midweek the team probably comes home for Oakleigh, if we lose we have to stay and scrap for the last 2 games.

Probably a thought that the team that played Auckland could/should beat PNG on Saturday. 2 wins makes the Tahiti game next Tuesday a dead rubber.

Todays draw has done us a massive favour. Ideally Auckland keeps beating the rest.

Even using the team vs Auckland we defs can't have a bench or 2 outfield players and a keeper feel after bula you send back 7 first team players that would include 1 keeper. Then you add them 2 Ethan, dovison, papadimitriou and skapoulas if available and that's your 11

Perhaps Poutakidis will take the Oakleigh match given a number of players (eg Menelaou, Leech, Cocks etc) would be flying back for the Oakleigh match.

We are a virtual certainty for the Top 4. And with Vanuatu leading, it's nearly locked in.

Our club will be focusing on the OFC once Phase 2 arrives.

That means our NPL team will be missing virtually our First Team for about 4/5 weeks.

Therefore we MUST return our best team for Oakleigh.

If South defeats Bula FC, we move to 22 points. The best that the fifth team can achieve is 21 points. Then we are mathematically secure in the top 4.

On the assumption that South beats Bula FC and PNG Hekari, and draws against Tahiti United, then we would finish the regular season on 26 points. That guarantees second spot. Then in the Leaders Group finals matches, you field the strongest Starting XI in order to finish that series off strongly and be well placed for the semi finals.

What we need is clarification on whether the regular season points carry forward to the Leaders Group finals series. My assumption would be yes.
