NPL 2026

Was a really good positive atmosphere, felt like an occasion. It’s good to see the Marconi - Sydney United traditional derby becoming more important/relevant again in recent years, likewise the Marconi - APIA Italian derby with more people from the broader football community starting to take an interest in these types of historic rivalries

Was particularly impressed with how vocal the members/corporate facilities in the boka stand were, some completely organic, genuinely loud singing at times

Only negative as it usually is for big games, lines for cevap were farked
Agreed. There seems to be more interests in NPL these days, its showing in the crowds.

Well they ran out of beer. A lot of drunken croats were not happy lol

Imo thats been an effect of first the cup and now the championship bringing more appreciation for and visibility of traditional clubs to people who only started following the sport post 05’. Also there’s no doubt been an increasing disillusionment with the a league in the last 5-10 years for a variety of reasons which have been discussed at length which has made people who are craving authenticity curious or made people return to their roots. To varying degrees at different clubs and in different cities obviously

Yea they did run out of beer, and pretty early on too. Was told they were going to the shops to buy more..old sokkah

Big match for Olympic this week, manly at home, they’ll be saying they have to get some point there. Just sad tbh, at a time when most of the other traditional clubs are in the best state they’ve been in years, they’re at their lowest ebb
sad it is but possibly the kick in the butt they have needed the last 10+yrs.
I really can't see them getting out of relo cliff tbh.
I'm more surprised Manly isn't much better this season.
Reflecting on the 2 above long timers UNSW/SD are doing better than we expected I suppose.

Hey tFl's Sutho has climbed P9 now between the 2 academies.

The interest in the NPL NSW seems to have increased. Could be a number of factors: Championship, use of social media, results, etc. It has been great to see and hopefully it continues. I think it does show that there is an appetite for lower league football in this country if you have the right set up. I hope I get to see a full period to the top tier in Australia in my lifetime.

Marketing #101 my friends - the Championship especially grabbing casuals eye but also there was alot posted of the NSD before.
Mix them both its triggered more interest or more so - hey look its all here at lower level come and check it out ?!
Championship been a good shot in the arm for the Clubs getting off their butts increasing their SM and local marketing.
Long overdue ! and shows/says, build it and they will come.
Long way to go but its a good start.

For those on here who maybe aren’t that familiar with Sydney or the clubs in question and don’t realise how close Marconi and Sydney United are located. A derby in every sense of the word, not just a historic sporting rivalry between two of the countries strongest traditional clubs

The stadiums are only 1.5kms apart. Its the real traditional local derby. Like a Merseyside derby (red v blue)

The term derby gets overused these days especially in the A-League. But this is one of a kind and probably the closest derby in Australia?

I'd like to find the all time stat's between the two clubs, first game was in the 70s.

Both clubs also founded in the same year if I’m not mistaken, 1958.

Too bad Marconi are 4 time national champions and Sydney united have donuts.

I think people prefer the pure, non fabricated, community club football.

I havent watched A-League in a while, but with the crowds dwindling, Are people moving away from the A-League and going to watch NPL?

you biatch Glenardo hahaha
I won't post up APIA's titles no need :)

Beretta, hard to call IF many are AL followers who may have seen some light ?????
Who knows, certainly not Sutho hehe
We sure do have real organic derbys/rivalries - nothing fabricated thats for sure !
So local and historic.

I think apart of it is also (because of the success of the Australia Cup) that general football public doesn't see the term "Greek club" or "Croatian Club" or "Italian cub" and wet their panties anymore... They see flares and rivalries and agro at the Aleague sure, but more importantly at our clubs they also see generational love and respect for club and culture, and it must be more appealing than the giant sanitised, techno music blaring "make some noiiiiizzzzeeee" AFL/NRL lite they get at their matchday???

When done well our clubs have ALOT of appeal for a football fan - maybe not the family friendly corporate Aleague/Matildas stuff , but football with a tiny bit of an edge to it appeals to the "new" fans... NPL is growing, and not just the old NSL clubs, thats what make it more exciting for me... Clubs like United, Marconi, Hellas will always have a fanbase but I like seeing the others grow as well.
