Watching the replay, of all of okons passes only one was back and only one of his forward passes was poor. He consistently started attacking moves

I agree metcalf is on the plane, rate him very highly

Responsibility for dual nationals should not be the head coaches responsibility period. It should be under the technical director with resources to support and retain our dual nationals.

The head coach should just be a cog in the machine with this. But it seems he's the one charged with sole responsibility. It's strategic and structural issue the FA must fix.

I don't know why anyone is surprised that NRL and AFL games should outdo Socceroos in numbers especially for a friendly. Football really is a minority code in this footy mad country

Not sure Irankunda is a natural no.9 because of his height. Coupla times v Cameroon he leapt in their box but couldn't connect. Mo Toure when he's fit is our man up front. Despite missing a couple of good chances, Irankunda I reckon in terms of confidence and football smarts looks better than he did in the friendlies last year. His Watford experience is showing.
 
Metcalfe played a decent amount at LWB for St Pauli so he's in the area. The issue is players being complacent and not having a real go. I get no one wants to injure themselves but if you're going to turn up a few games in a row with the same lethargic demeanour then you've got to be benched.

Credit to Italiano, Bos, Circati and Herrington for initiating attacks.

Okon was OK and benefited from the stage of the game he entered. I still think he's got to bide his time and not be given everything yet.

I guess it will be an interesting question who is our back up 9 going forward since the gap between toure and the next best young 9 is big at the moment

A multitude of factors. Early eggball season so people are hyped and in their routines. Dull B selection from opponent in a bowl stadium with some ineffective marketing. Dull Popovic tactics although on replay I found the first half a very interesting watch.

Group think studio panels not analysing in depth or being critical. It was on 10 itself but depending on people's TV set ups, it's more of an effort to change apps than channels.

I noticed even myself last night I was half heartedly pressing the remote for Germany Switzerland or England Uruguay while on the couch with nothing better to do.

the game used to be beholden to sbs, so they could be critical without losing access

I think with the evidence that Italiano is totally fine at RWB we're sorted with Geria and Metcalfe as cover and we should add players further up.

Trewin is a next cycle player for me but his addition over Degenek and Rowles would allow one more attacking pick.
 
I was at both games.It was freezing and very wet for the start of the China Curacao game.Curacao did lots of passing but progressed the ball too slowly to worry China.We should be able to nick a few goals against them.
Tepid first half from the Socceroos.Juric was isolated and well marshalled by the physical Cameroon CBs.Boyle started well but then faded.Italiano did well and was keen to bet forward.He lack the physicality of Miller but has a better first touch.
Herrington is definitely a talent and a back three of Circati,Burgess and Herrington could be our starters at the WC.I feel Souttar will not be ready in time and even though at the last WC he did well following an injury lay off he is four years older and has not really played for nearly two seasons.
Irankunda did well as starting striker but he is still at his most dangerous when coming in from a wide position.Hrustic should have converted the penalty .He does not impress me but he will probably be on the plane as we lack a right sided inside forward.

Robbo needs to be on the park for at least 70 minutes on Tuesday, half of the time at defensive MF, the other half as attacking MF. He is highly capable in both positions. If he doesn't make it on the park at all, then what is the point of bringing a player over from the other side of the world for the last four friendlies without an opportunity to show his ability. On a positive note, great for Popa to play Herrington all game. Everyone now recognise what Roar supporters have known for the last two years.

Burgess

Yazbek
Robertson
Mabil
Juric
Velupillay

Test the Italiano Mabil link for a half. What exactly is Suto's position? Juric needs another go.

No point risking the stars here. I wouldn't mind having Trewin and Herrington to see how they go with less leadership around.

If we could just change formation we could play Okon behind Yazbek and Robertson.
