Doing something in training but doing nothing in matches is not a way to go forward.
I'm trying to remember some interview of a retired coach I heard about a player that kept wowing in training but not bringing it on the pitch and kept getting played as a result because he was head and shoulders above in training haha

who knows?

Boyle definitely should be on the fringes for this squad. He may make the 26 but he definitely isn't a starter and teetering on the edge. O'Neill similarly is more likely but I don't see how he is a sure starter, he sets us back quite a bit.

There were so many positives tonight.

We learned we have a starting quality CB in Herrington.

Italiano looks like a worthy replacement for Miller.

Irankunda can play CF and be dangerous for us.
I've only seen 20 of 90 but these things stood out for me too. I' not saying Mabil is a saviour but it was a positive return which keeps everyone honest.

irankunda has vastly improved as a 9

that's pretty good news because unless arena declares for us there is a bit of a dropoff between toure and our next best young 9

Like Juric, Robertson to be given 45min in an unfamiliar system and role to then be thrown to the scrap heap. O'Neill FFS is just way too casual. I know he can do a tidy thing now and then but it's just so lame. We need to start Balard and Robertson together.

Bigger picture needed. Can Irankunda please not run in added time only to get snapped from behind. No stupid shit for 8 weeks.

Is Metcalfe ok?

at least if that happens he is locked in for 3 years i believe in fifa's rubix cube laws

then there is a chance robbo bangs the door down at club level without us losing him

From the final 20min yes. Every transition he ran into space and moved up the line. He had many quick touches to share the ball. Some good through balls too. He ran wider to stretch the defence. Good tactical awareness.
I thought he ran into space well as I mentioned earlier, but I thought he then let himself down quite a few times with his touch or pass.

Juric pressed well, got very little service.
Metcalfe tried hard to progress the ball but was a liability giving away fouls, next up a sub who can plug multiple positions for mine.
O'Neill can be stagnant and frustrating, feel we have better options.
Boyle definitely made Mabil look good.
Herrington, what a player, felt supremely confident whenever he was near the ball.
Italiano put in a superb shift.

I'd love some metrics from player healthy data and interviews about how they're feeling with jetlag and the WC coming up. I'm asking how much the travel was a factor. Not looking for convenient excuses. The players know there's a massive tournament coming so no one wants to overdo it but you need to do well to get picked.

As much as Boyle is a great bloke he hasn't held up his end of the deal since the March window last year. Woeful since then. He's got to be cut.
