Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

I have searched and searched and can find nothing about his dad having Oz links. Would love it if he did, but there seems to be zilch online.
Funnily enough, I have just tried searching again using Copilot and it tells me there is zero link to Australia: "Australia: not established on the public record I can verify. The crucial assertion — that his father holds Australian citizenship (and that Harrison holds it too) — is not supported by the credible sources surfaced.". I even went back to Google AI and it said there is no link and I responded "this is what you told me yesterday" and copied that text that it had given me about his father being an Australian citizen, and it replied "The information you received previously regarding Harrison Ashby's eligibility for Australia is incorrect and appears to be based on an unverified claim. There is no evidence that Harrison Ashby is eligible to play for the Socceroos." So looks like that may be the end of that! A reminder that AI tools can't always be trusted!

Wait til Volpato scores a goal in the next week or two and Italy makes it through the playoffs, then he decides he wants to hold out for the Azzuri again.

I foresee a future just around the corner in which neither Volpato, Bennie or Segecic pull on a Socceroos shirt.

Talk about putting all your eggs in the one Younis.

What is the irony? That Australia signing players who havent set foot in this country and in some cases can't even speak English is "homeland" but the reverse is not?
If they called Australia their homeland I’d find that ironic too.

You are making up words I never said.

Not sure if it cuts close to the bone for wave flagging nationalist types who deep down don’t even love that place enough to actually live there.

Personally I couldn’t give two shits who anyone played for.

Playing for a team like Croatia would be amazing.

I’d be surprised if he gets decent game time for Croatia, but maybe he has a deal to get a cap so his manager and the board of the Croatia national team can get a cut 😂

I dont believe in countries, Im an Internationalist... I dont take personal credit for the blessing bestowed upon me by the randomness of my being born Greek.. its not fair to the rest of you

So then if everyone plays for their countries of heritage, there would be no Socceroos, no Matildas, no youth teams, nothing.
How did you draw one conclusion from the other? Stop trying to play eugenics, YOU dont get to decide what another person's "country of heritage" is thats the point..... FIFA and the Immigration department do.

He cared and was livid when Volpato switched just not too long ago.

I highly doubt Segecic will get anywhere near the Croatian first team. If he did, he'd be the first not to be produced by a Croatian club in Australia.
Taking the piss out of someone is not being livid.

The HNS comes to Australia and runs camps every January. They've been doing this for the past 3/4 years.

We got some young kids currently on trial at Hajduk Split.

If Australia won't look at them or take them, Croatia will.
There are at least 10 dual Croatia/Australia players born between 2004-2008 that are currently playing senior football or Juniori in Croatia

Yeah it sucks about Segacic, but the reality is it’s gonna be swings and roundabouts for the Socceroos in this situations. On one hand you’re gonna have third generation kids who still choose to turn out for a European team of their heritage. This could be exacerbated as Europe experiences significant population decline because of birth rates, and countries who haven’t done large immigration have to look to their diaspora for the next generation. This is already concern in a bunch of these nations. So expect more of these situations.

However, on the flipside Australia has one of the highest immigration rates in the world, and we’re gonna see more Irankunda’s, and Toure’s in the future. In 10 to 15 years the multicultural makeup of the socceroos will most likely be even more diverse, with Asian, African and Arab kids wearing the green and gold. So it’s an advantage.

Plus, while we have our challenges here in Australia, the economic headwinds Europe and the UK are facing are extremely tough. I’ve read a number of articles in the UK and Irish press about how they’re losing so many young adults to Australia. Some will stay, some will have kids, and some of those kids might one day be wearing the green and gold.

Plus, while we’ve lost Segacic and Triantis, we have also gained Boyle and Souttar. Caleb Watts is hitting form and we could be talking about him after the World Cup. There will be more in the future.

Immigration is gonna cut both ways but at the end of the day, the Socceroos has represented that part of the Australian story well and will continue to do so.
