A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 17

Also, mv missed out by not stiching up Millsy. What a job he’s doing.

All those folks who say ‘nobody plays youth’. Well, there you go, go and watch them
He hasn't achieved yet with the Box Office Jets what Ange achieved with Roarcelona but I am beginning to wonder if Millsy will mirror his career trajectory. AL-JL-SPL-EPL. Too early to make that call, of course, but will follow with interest. Impressive so far.

I wonder how much the pressure plays a role though. Expectations at Jets are different to that at MV. I don't think he'd be getting the same results at MV. He definitely wouldn't have the same level of freedom at MV.

I missed the WSW v Wellington game last night but just did a catch up this morning...

Now.I know how some of us will whinge on and on about the infrastructure of football in Australia but as far as the actual football goes there's not really a lot wrong!

This A-League match was a very watchable game.

I'll watch half a dozen or more games a week from different leagues and this was as good a football spectacle as anything I've seen anywhere in the last few weeks.

Roar putting up a fight but still there passing is shocking so 3rd rate there only hope is for a long ball over the top.

You do us a courtesy by calling them passes I am afraid.

Bouzanis, Durrington, Valkanis and De3nch have all given the ball straight to opponents multiple times. Bloody hell it is frustrating watching.

Our new centreback is another defender who sits in the "slower than fast" category. The Victory goal was really well executed, but it was too much of a one-sided run with the ball. We need a fast defender somewhere in the middle.

We look like a bunch of individuals playing again - although we tried, and were not hideous, at playing good, positive football before we conceded. I think our run of losses has kicked the players in the guts big time so as soon as we went down a goal the whole team thought "here we go again - can't trust the players behind us so drop back and defend".

Daggers is doing OK up front to create. He is a bit isolated when he gets the ball and has chested the ball down to Victory players a few times when he could have done better. All very reactive across the pitch.

Long out wide is a waste. He has a good boot on him so he needs to be played centrally to either pass or shoot. He does not have the pace to put defenders in two minds which makes him easier to close down.

I think playing both Long and Daggers closer together in the middle is more likely to produce - where they can both create space and pass to the other in a dangerous position. Especially since we still like the long ball (or rather are unable to get the ball forward by foot and that only leaves the long ball).

Four relatively new outfield players out of 10 has to take time to produce any cohesion.

Time to watch the game for the shirt and not the win. We have to snap out of this disfunctional play sometime - I'm hoping it is the second half.

A better second half by us.

Under a little sustained pressure , Victory choked themselves up - giving us a bit of time and space to put passes together (still not good enough accuracy though).

We played with a bit of intensity - mostly starting from McGarry's efforts in my eyes - and it helped to have players looking like they both wanted the ball and were willing to get to it. It feels so much better when you have players receiving the ball and driving with it rather than playing with lackadaisical style and slow speed.

Still stupid shirt pulls and the like. No point in making an effort all around the ground then someone giving a cheap free kick by pulling a shirt. Valkanis does it when he doesn't need to and you don't need a centre back who concedes free kicks out of laziness and bad habits.

Brazete seemed a shadow of himself in impact. He looks quite sturdy now and that might have robbed him of some speed. Not sharp and second to a lot of loose balls. Only a few minutes game time but he did not seize the moment.

Dench quite loose with his play - he did not present at the level we need him to be in this league. I have seen him play better.

Our second half was positive. Whether Victory's drop allowed that or our increase caused theirs I don't know.

We did not give the sense we were definitely going to score but we had some chances.

A second half to take home with the point and continue to improve from.

Victory had a game like our earlier season ones - playing some fast impressive football for a half and a bit, then dropping away to a desperate scramble.
