A-League Women season 2025-26 thread

Someone on a league Reddit predicted the nz women's to overtake the a league women's league which is quite alarming to think.

The New Zealand women's football system has become more advanced than the A-League Women since their leagues underwent a restructuring and overhaul in 2021, and they already have a domestic cup which we don't have. I think if ALW is facing a demise in its current form then a full overhaul may be necessary so we can capitalise on the expected second wave of Matildas mania when the 2026 Women's Asian Cup on home soil rolls around next March.

Its more proof that the game can't sustain 2 different comps.
With the massive W growth at grass roots to Rep only so few spots available in the APL model/s the game needs to break out and be openned up.
There is bucket loads of talent down there that needs developing and more competition who are the next Kerrs etcetc.....

I agree, much of the youth talent pool in A-League Women is limited to a few clubs with the likes of Willa Pearson and Shelby McMahon all coming from the Sydney FC and Melbourne City systems and other sides not contributing as much, and it would be good for there to be an actual pyramid in place so that there's a proper development pipeline to bolster the Matildas farm system with going forwards.

yep its all there underneath.
Happy to say I contributed in some tournaments and a Elite Girls Football Program.
Tournament Of Champions etc.....
I see some wonderfully skilled young girls that like watching NPL/YL mens can't get in the APL systems but show so much potential.
We have bottle necked our growth.
I'm staggered since the Matilda heyday surge from years back we are not seeing enough transitional new Kerr's/can I say De Vanna's/Catley's etc
What I am seeing is sad for I expected US to be a consistant top 3 nation carrying on from the past.
Sadly we know and see the barriers/politcs.

Even if they have a better system, the Dub is still much higher quality and probably always will be.

We need professionalism immediately. My prediction is it will eventually come (probably in about five years) but we need it now.

That being said there has been some shocking calls this season. City’s pen against the Jets, Riley Tanner’s goal for Sydney against Roar being ruled offside, etc.
