Are there fb groups? I havent found any a league ones but found a "bring back the nsl" one. Admin seemed to have left it a year ago tho and its overrun with porn bots lol

Another thing is just word of mouth too. We thought about fanzines if fanviews become common enough but that would be ambitious. We would need enough fanview writers and editors that there are stories every day
Probably less on Facebook since it's an older platform. Few people under 30 regularly use it which is why people on Reddit say it's all "right-wing/far-right boomers with profile pics of either their car or half their face".

There's a Matildas/A-League group on Facebook though. Could be worth a shot.

Yeah a tipping comp sounds good!

Agree about Bluesky, nobody in Australia uses it. I remember the football subs were up in arms over Twitter but were debating blocking it because Bluesky (the alternative) had bugger all football news. Some even wanted to block Meta (Facebook and Instagram) because of Mark Zuckerberg.

As for Twitter, I don't really like it and I hate Trump and Musk but blocking links to it is stupid. Many football news outlets still use it.
Its definitely gradually getting worse since musk took over but still very useful for quick football info and gauging fan reaction (i like to see if im getting a different view of an aussie player since im obviously going to be biased towards aussies)

I posted the political skew of social media platforms in another thread, i think facebook was slightly left but i could be wrong. I guess to reddit everything including their breakfast cereal is far right

More tillies supporters would be great

A thread for each match? Socceroos games aside we don't have enough users for the average individual match. The round threads provide enough of a fold in of what's going on each weekend. While old threads eventually fade and get bumped down it gets aesthetically annoying having so many listed items.

Yeah i was saying we would need to quadruple to get to it being worth a thread for each match

Usually people only post either on the automod's dedicated "Aussies abroad" post, post highlights (e.g I post goals, good saves and occasionally clips from interviews) or ask questions.

They only do matchday threads for either national team games, A-Leagues/Championship games, Asian games involving Australian teams and OFC Pro League games for South Melbourne or any of the Kiwi teams.

To be fair, here and Reddit are both completely different. Here we can post "Nice block from Clare Hunt" or "What a goal from Adrian Segečić!" in real time. Reddit requires lengthier posts.
to be fair, they do have a daily 'Around the Grounds' matchday thread during the NPL season. Tried to garner up some Yoogali support there during the year lol

Would love to grow the women's space in particular, hence why I messaged a couple users on Reddit. I was unfortunately not successful.

The lack of NPL content might be due to the fact that a lot of the users just blanketly dislike NPL clubs because of a subset of racist fans (in particular a section of the Sydney United active supporters' group). Some people thought the Championship was just "glorified NPL".

100% agree. NPL match threads on Reddit are lacking too though. It's probably partly because Reddit has an automod that makes them (except for OFC Pro League ones which are done by one user).

Reddit is insanely political, but here there's a dedicated politics thread which people can choose to look at. On Reddit posts that are remotely political (e.g funding for X from Y person and Z party, players saying XYZ, etc) can easily get political. G&GFC is also more diverse politically by the looks of it. Reddit is very left-leaning and progressive so if you're conservative or even just right-leaning or even centrist that can speak problems. Instagram is much more diverse politically than Reddit even in young people's spaces on there.

One thing I do think we should do is try and grow the site. I've tried messaging a few users on Reddit (since a straight up promo on the r/A-League sub would probably get me banned as it would break the subreddit rules and would be linking to a secretly banned site), but they've either not responded or don't allow PMs (Reddit calls DMs "PMs", "private messages" as opposed to "direct messages"). The one exception is one user who I asked who was interested but I don't think has joined yet.
On this - I am not very active on the reddit itself - moreso the discord they have set up for it.
I honestly can't remember the names dropped, but there's a few there that aren't happy with a few individuals here - but from memory that's a them problem mostly, not an us problem, and I ain't getting involved lol

Yeah, for NPL content on that subreddit, needs to be something really specific.

If the topic was "racism in the NPL" it would get posted (a lot of condemnation for the SU58 Ustaše stuff and rightfully so, but probably not much condemnation of progressive antisemitism). Other than that only good goals and "oh, this team won the premiership/grand final" are the only content.

I mean when it continues to happen it's not really a "dead horse" but I do think they take it too far. I wouldn't be surprised if similar opinions are held about Lazio or Millwall.

Yeah, only other time I've tried to get them to engage with stuff is Yoogali. Which.. goes reasonably well I think. Shows that Capital Football are/should be persona non grata across the board.

when it continues to happen? Which is what exactly?

Football in the ACT and Southern NSW is a mess. In additional to the Yoogali situation, Canberra's been supposed to get an ALM team for years and now Canberra United in the ALW might fold since this is the last season Capital Football will run the club so they need an owner or they'll fold. Ironically they might win the whole thing this year.

And then Andrew Barr will be forced to put more money into Capital Football via Canberra United's ALW team, and attempt to be lauded as a saviour of football in Canberra, despite it only probably being about 5% of the annual funding he gives the AFL to have a Sydney team play 2-3 games here a season and put "CANBERRA" on the back of their collar.
